Inside the story

NORTHLINE PLASTICS • THIRD SHIFT

THE MACHINE IS RUNNING.

THE BOARD SAYS IT ISN'T.

THE PARTS ALREADY EXIST ON PAPER.

A newly promoted relief lead expects the job to be simple: keep eighteen presses running and leave first shift an honest handoff.

Then Press 12 starts without a work order. The black housings pass inspection and carry valid customer labels, but the production board says the machine is down. Each department holds one accurate piece of the run while the system carries inventory the factory never made.

When a premature status sends 514 held parts toward a waiting truck, the night shift must reconstruct thousands of phantom pieces—and find the line between following orders and owning a decision.

The truth has to survive the handoff.
